Hello All,
The theme for our 2012 traditional season trip is SaTurnAllia
:-)

What is SaTurnAllia??

It is the celebration of SATURNALIA( an Ancient Roman festival ) STEVE & ALLI STYLE!
It starts December 12, 2012 at 12:12:12 A.M.

The following Information pertaining to SATURNALIA is posted in celbration of :
Rollie-Pollie !!

Saturnalia was introduced around 217 BCE ....

By the beginning of December, writes Columella, the farmer should have finished his autumn planting (De Re Rustica, III.14). Now, at the time of the winter solstice (December 25 in the Julian calendar), Saturnus, the god of seed and sowing, was honored with a festival.
Saturnalia became one of the most popular Roman festivals. It was marked by tomfoolery, mayhem, merriment and the reversal of social roles, in which slaves and masters ostensibly switched places (much like the Lord of Misrule in later Medieval Christian celebrations). Later, it was used

to raise citizen morale after a crushing military defeat at the hands of the Carthaginians. Originally celebrated for a day, its popularity saw it grow until it became a week-long extravaganza. Efforts to shorten the celebration were unsuccessful. Augustus tried to reduce it to three days, and Caligula to five (Party 'El Caganers' )
Saturn is often portrayed holding a sickle or scythe in one hand and a bundle of wheat in the other.

This artist has "shown old Saturnus in his chariot pulled by winged serpents, wearing his purple robes and party pileus and brandishing his scythe. The roundels on his chariot depict the star-signs Capricorn and Aquarius which he governs.

After picking the painting of Chariot-riding-Saturn, My Steve deciced to provide us with a SaturnAllia chariot complete with "purple" serpent-engine-power !!!
(This next part is for Tabitha  who created the term for my most favorite car of my dreams):
................IT's A DOO-DATTY BUG !!!
IT's a SaTurnAllia DooDatty Chariot!

Though I was not flying across the sky, I felt like I was , putting across the countryside...

The customary greeting for the occasion is a “Io, Saturnalia!” Io (pronounced “e-o”) being a Latin interjection related to “ho” (as in “Ho, praise to Saturn” which may be the inspiration for modern " HO HO HO here comes Santa").

Io Saturnalia Everyone and may you ALSO feel joy .....like flying high in the chariot of your dreams this first day of SaTurnAllia!!!
To my Saturn God..... Io Steve !  \,,|/
